“The BIGGEST Security Risk To Your Business Could Cost Your Business Tens Of Thousands To Hundreds Of Thousands…
…But There IS Something You Can Do About It”
I’ve been speaking on cyber security to groups all throughout Western PA for years. I notice that audiences are no longer surprised when I outline how PEOPLE are the biggest hole in a network’s security. Truthfully, I’m really glad.
You see, hackers will never stop trying to penetrate your networks by means of infecting your computers from web browsing or infected emails. And they won’t stop trying to get past your firewall. But just like water, they are looking for the past of least resistance and that, my friends, is your people.
Take for example, this example of CEO Fraud. A comptroller was sent an email that (at a glance) appeared to be from the company’s CEO. The hacker was careful to use the organization’s Outlook template and even the tone of the CEO…..
….and it almost worked.
(email sent from hacker)

The comptroller noticed that the email was signed by the CEO using his full name… which was not typical. Because their company provides proper awareness and security training to its staff, when the comptroller didn’t feel the email was legit, she flagged it and had it verified. Good call.
This was a REAL attack and it was nearly successful. If successful, this attack would have cost the company tens of thousands of dollars. This particular incident happened within the last 30 days of me writing this email, but don’t think that this is an isolated or rate incident.
One of my clients and dear friends called me several months ago telling me his banker had just called him because he had received a request FROM HIM to wire $20,000 to an account and he thought he’d verify it first prior to wiring the money.
Guess what? The request came from my client’s email address AND was on his letterhead. We quickly changed all his passwords and no money was lost. But again, its VIGILANCE people, VIGILANCE and AWARENESS.
Because it’s my goal to keep networks secure, I’ve created a new FREE service, “Weekly Cyber Security Tip.”
All of my clients are instantly opted into this, but if you aren’t a client and want tips to help keep your network secure, educate your people to be your first line of defense, and join the hundreds of people who are learning to keep their network secure, enter your email address and we’ll rush you a weekly Security Tip.
To the security of your network and business,
